"SHIPPING"
Your sculpture will be crated by a professional art crating service or personally by the artist to insure the safest possible shipping conditions. We use the most reliable shippers, negotiate the best possible rates and always insure for the full value of the work. Art shippers always handle especially delicate works. Since much of the sculpture exhibited on our site is located at our Berkeley gallery, we can often ship within a week. We will email your final cost and estimated date of arrival within three working days. The shipper will call you directly to arrange delivery.
"SHIPPING COSTS AND THE BEST SHIPPING METHODS" We ensure that your work of art is delivered in pristine condition. When you have decided that a work you have seen on A NEW LEAF SCULPTURESITE is the right piece for you, that is the time to contact us about shipping, handling and installation. Most smaller works may be carefully packed in cardboard or light weight boxes and shipped by U.P. S. while other large and/or especially delicate work may need custom crating and care that only a specialist art shipper can supply. Some stone and tough weathering steel pieces can be safely shipped by common carrier. Unless otherwise arranged, deliveries of boxes of larger than U.P.S. are  curbside; though some drivers will move a crate a reasonable distance along a level smoothly paved surface at your request. We will customize shipping arrangements especially tailored to the work you have chosen and your particular needs and desires. We will ensure that everything is arranged for a trouble free delivery. We will arrange a lift gate on the delivery truck where necessary for example and let you know what special equipment may be needed on your end (if any) for any particular piece. All shipping is insured for the full value of the piece.
"UNCRATING AND INSTALLATION"
Most small to medium size (and even some pieces up to seven feet tall) may simply be placed and will need no special uncrating or installation instructions. In some situations, the artist will do the installation in person. We also offer uncrating and installation services. We need to know if you need these services before we finalize shipping arrangements. The most efficient approach is to have an art shipper perform both the uncrating and installation. In the case of corporate and estate projects, artists who work on large to monumental projects are eminently qualified to be involved with shipping, design, engineering and construction professionals and of course shipping and installation are worked out in advance with them as part of the commission process. When assembly and/or securing are necessary, instructions, special hardware (if required) and diagram(s) will accompany the work. Because each sculpture is unique we will communicate all the details carefully to you as necessary for each particular work and obtain your confirmation before shipping. As soon as payment is received on an order, that piece is reserved for you; You cannot lose the sculpture while the shipping details are worked out. When the shipping details are confirmed we must receive payment for shipping before the piece can go out and the estimated arrival time set.
"NUTS AND BOLTS OF SCULPTURE PLACEMENT"
There are some practical matters to be considered when placing sculpture, aside from aesthetic issues.
"LAWN PLACEMENT" Most medium to large size pieces placed on lawn or garden areas should have a stone or cast concrete base to lift the piece off the ground. This will help protect from ground splash and possible damage from garden tools and machinery. Weed whips and power mowers that jet cut grass to the side or whip up pebbles should be kept away from all sculpture. Cut grass makes a mess that can be cleaned off with some trouble; pebbles can cause permanent damage.
"ELEVATING PIECES" Steel pieces should be elevated slightly above wood decking and paving surfaces (about 1 inch) with wood, plastic or masonry blocks. Slight staining that may appear even with this precaution over the years can be removed with " Naval Jelly" (available from most hardware stores). Indoors with fine carpeting and hardwood floors, pieces should also be elevated above the surface to prevent condensation and staining. Custom Bases At reasonable cost, custom bases can be designed either by the artist or A NEW LEAF SCULPTURESITE for unique situations. Most large pieces are made so that they can be bolted down or can usually be made so at your request.
"BOLTING DOWN" Bolting down is desirable where security from vandalism or theft is an important issue and for very tall pieces in areas that may be subjected to high winds,or in case a light or fragile piece might be bumped, tipped or damaged by passers-by or young children.
Don't bolt down if the piece is very heavy and the center of gravity is low. You may want to be able to move a work easily in the future. Also, if you are in an earthquake prone area, please note that many engineers feel that heavy stone pieces are best not pinned or bolted: it is preferable that the stone bounce and move around than snap off.
Please, let us know if you intend to bolt or secure your sculpture, so the artist can help determine the best and least obtrusive way to achieve security for your piece. |
